Session 7 Seedlings Lesson Plan

OVERVIEW: Seedlings are grown for many types of plants grown in simplified hydroponics. This session teaches how to harvest seeds from the garden so they will not have to be purchased. Smaller containers are used for growing seedlings. This session teaches how to construct the seedling growers, fill with substrate , plant seeds and then water with nutrient water.

PURPOSE: To learn how to harvest and germinate seedlings for the simplified hydroponic garden.

OBJECTIVES:

  1. Learn how to harvest seeds from the garden
  2. Build a seedling grower, fill it with growing substrate
  3. Plant seeds in the seedling grower and water with nutrient water
  4. Know what plants need to be directly planted into growers

RESOURCES/MATERIALS: For the practical part of the class, the students A graduated stick is constructed to use with seedling growers. They build a seedling grower out of a container they bring to the class. They then fill it with growing substrate, plant seeds and water with nutrient water

RESOURCES:

Seedlings in Hydroponics

Comic Book on Seedlings
Growig Seedlings in Hydroponics
Starting plants from seeds

ACTIVITIES AND PROCEDURES:

  1. Present the slides for the construction, set up and planting of a seedling grower
  2. Take time for questions from the students or comments
  3. Go into the outside area and have the class construct a seedling container, fill it with substrate and plant seeds.
  4. Mix nutrient water and have the students each water their seedling grower
  5. Meet for a review of the material

Slide Shows

TYING IT TOGETHER: At the end of the session, the student should be able to build a seedling grower, set it up with substrate and plant seeds in the container.
