Session 2 Gardens

OVERVIEW: Simple hydroponic gardens around the world help families grow food and make extra income. It is especially suited to mothers with small children that cannot leave home for work. The gardens are described and how they can produce food to help human health.

PURPOSE: Simplified Hydroponic gardens around the world are described and shown as making a difference.

OBJECTIVES:

  1. Understand that simple hydroponic gardens are being used all around the earth
  2. Understand how the garden can help provide food
  3. Understand that vegetables are important for a healthy diet

RESOURCES/MATERIALS: Each student decides what they would like to have in a food basket every day, and what that would cost in the market

RESOURCES:
Nutrients in foods
Nutrition needed for people
Calories, protein and fat in foods
Amino acids in food
Comic Book on harvesting foods

ACTIVITIES AND PROCEDURES:

  1. Present the slides for gardens around the world
  2. Take time for questions from the students or comments
  3. Have each student make a list of the foods she would like to grow
  4. Determine what the foods are worth in the market
  5. Meet for a review of the material
