Session 13 Profit - Growing your own food Lesson plan

OVERVIEW: This session teaches about the individual and social profits that can occur for a garden owner.

PURPOSE: To understand the potential beneifts of setting up and owning a micro-garden.

OBJECTIVES:

  1. Understand how a garden can help a family survive
  2. Understand the potential social benefits of a garden
  3. Know the possible rewards of garden ownership

RESOURCES/MATERIALS: In the practical the students examine how their ownership of a garden can help a community. They look at how they can help each other in this process of building and operating gardens.

ACTIVITIES AND PROCEDURES:

  1. Present the slides for garden profits
  2. Take time for questions from the students or comments
  3. Do a practical with the students to examine how their gardens can help their families and their communities
  4. Meet for a review of the material
